  • applied load: 100 kgf
  • Eight steel truss members arranged in a roof-truss configuration
  • Each member instrumented with strain gauges for axial force measurement
  • Four strain gauges (full Wheatstone bridge) mounted on each member to provide temperature compensation and accurate force measurement
  • Precision dial gauge for measuring truss deflection with a resolution of 2µm
  • Eight-channel selector (switch box) for displaying the force in each member
  • One removable member, allowing investigation of load redistribution and redundancy in the truss
  • Two digital indicators:
  • one for measuring the externally applied load
  • one for displaying the internal axial force of each truss member
  • Manual lever loading system for smooth and controlled load application

The apparatus is equipped with eight hinged steel members, a rigid aluminum frame, and an 8-channel selector (switch box) for strain measurement. The truss members are arranged to allow investigation of both statically determinate and statically indeterminate truss configurations. Each truss member is instrumented with four strain gauges in a full Wheatstone bridge configuration, providing accurate measurement of axial force and elongation with inherent temperature compensation. The loading system consists of a handwheel-driven mechanism capable of applying loads up to 100 kgf, together with a 200 kgf load cell with 0.5% full-scale accuracy for measuring the applied force.

The apparatus includes two portable digital indicators (STI-50 model): one for displaying the externally applied load and the other for indicating the internal axial force in each truss member via the selector switch. In addition, two high precision dial gauges with a resolution of 2 µm are provided for measuring the overall truss deflection.

The apparatus is designed to demonstrate the static behavior of a truss and to investigate the axial force in each of its members. It is also used to teach and study truss deflection using energy methods in strength of materials based on Castigliano theorem.
