The SCA-3 apparatus is equipped with four interchangeable steel cam profiles and allows installation of two follower bearings as well as a sliding follower. By adjusting the rotational speed, the system enables complete 360˚ plotting of follower displacement as a function of cam angle. Jerk points in the cam-follower motion can be identified directly from the plotted curve; these effects can be reduced or eliminated by selecting a different spring or replacing the cam profile. Additional motion diagrams – such as displacement-angle, velocity-angle, and acceleration-angle can be derived form the primary curve recorded by the mechanical plotter. To increase the follower mass, the apparatus is equipped with four 400 g weights that cab ne added for loading the follower as required.
