SMD-200C is a machine that uses test piece or dies to determine torque or stress while applying strain. This type of rheometer has no rotor and just two dies are in contact with the sample. This method reduces heat loss caused by heat transmission from rheometer disc to ODR. Fast response temperature controllers provide constant temperature conditions according to standards and rubber vulcanization for precise review. Without rotor, the test piece reaches the experiment temperature within a shorter time and there is a better heat distribution on the specimen due to omission of rotor. The specimen is placed in the lower die cavity and test starts just by a single clicking. Dies get closed and set at pre-selected temperature. One of the dies is oscillated in small rotary or linear amplitude. This creates a sinusoidal variable linear strain or a torsional strain in the test piece as well as a shearing force or torque, the value of which depends on the rubber compound stiffness (shear modulus). The enclosed curve (amplitude of force or oscillating torque) is steadily registered in terms of a function of time. The rubber specimen stiffness increases with continuation of vulcanization process. The test is over when the registered force or torque has reached to a balancing or maximum value, or a certain period is passed. SMD-200C software carries out all test procedures automatically. Machine connection to the serial port enables the operator to use PC (or laptop) without any interface cards. Machine dies are designed modular in order to reduce maintenance cost and time. Dies consist of heater, sensors, insulating materials, body and standard cavities, which can be installed and replaced as a part of the machine. Any change in oscillation angle is carried out mechanically without replacing any part and the operator just sets the crank mechanism position manually. All electronic parts of SMD-200C are integrated into an internal modular board, which is connected to a computer by RS-232 serial port. Due to the use of digital signal processing (DSP) technology, the board does not require any adjustment and can be replaced in a few minutes by the technicians within a couple of minutes. This machine has more advantages than ODR machine:
•Comparing to ODR machines, in SMD-200C the dies can be heated directly, and smaller and thinner test pieces can be placed in comparison with. Therefore, there will be minor thermal lag at the beginning of the experiment, and the temperature can be read more accurately.
•In this rheometer, the lower die oscillates and the torque in the upper die is measured. This deformation separation and torque measurement, facilitates the torque separation to viscose test pieces. This provides more information to perform quality control, R&D, and manufacture and increases reliability to more deliberate decisions in formulation characteristics, thus reducing false positive, and much more reliability about the product general quality is obtained.
- Study the rheological properties of rubbers and elastomers
- Rubber compounding formulation
- Study and evaluation of raw materials used for rubber compounds (vulcanizable)
- Suitable for performing quality control and R&D in producing elastomeric and rubber compounds
