The machine is designed to test wire torsional strength, test is carried out with maximum speed of 30rpm (3.14Rad/sec, or 10800degree/min) and minimum speed of 0.01rpm (0.001rad/sec, or 3.6degree/min) both in cyclic (i.e. 10 rounds CW and 10 rounds CCW automatically) and torsional mode. The machine operating mechanism is servo electromechanical using a gearbox, with a torque meter (accuracy better than 1% of the reading in a range of 2%-100% of the machine capacity), as well as an angle meter, accuracy 0.001º. The controlling system is of computerized type through serial port RS-232 by means of DSP technology regardless of the PC type. User-friendly software controls and draws torque-speed curves on PC and presents pertinent reports. Other capabilities are recording, recalling, and printing the test values, defining the test speed, specimen dimension, points of maximum torque, rupture torque, as well as torque at yield point on the graph. An individual control keyboard with JOG keys are mounted on the machine for easy operation and adjusting the test piece and grip rotation. A protective door or shield can be mounted on the machine for more safety. The system has a safety laser scanner that provides safeguarding and personnel protection, it stops the machine operation if any object (operator’s hand and arm, or even wrench) gets close to or left on the chuck. To carry out hot tests, a single zone furnace -heat capacity 1000ºC- with supports and brackets with 2º clearance to be mounted on the machine via slots is used (annular furnace, inner diameter 50mm and length 150mm). The furnace is equipped with thermocouples K, flexi type class “A” (display resolution 0.1º) as well as control system and PID digital control display. Moreover, the machine has accessories for torsional torque calibration; these accessories are rendered to the buyer for functional verification.

The machine is designed to carry out tests and QC of various wires, by which their functions under torsional loads are determined, such as:

   •Quality control of Copper wires

   •Testing the high strength wires

   •Testing the strings of cables and wire ropes

   •Quality control of wires in power industry and power transmission lines
