In hardness test, according to the standard, the standard force (e.g. weights (5kg) for the Shore D) is applied by both loading handle and frictionless mechanism to the indenter to penetrate into the sample; then the rubber surface hardness is obtained by shore durometer. A protective shield is installed for safety to prevent the indenter from any contact with the metal bracket or other potential damages.

This test is used to measure rubber and plastic hardness thus it is of importance as a one of the QC steps.
