Torsion testing is a critical mechanical testing method in the spring industry. Manufactured spiral torsion springs must be subjected to torsion testing to determine their torque-angle characteristics, torsional strength, and resistance to applied loads.<\/p>\n
During spiral torsion spring manufacturing, it is not sufficient to evaluate torsional strength alone; the functional performance of the spring under operating conditions must also be assessed. Torsion testing can be performed in accordance with ASTM A125-96 to evaluate the mechanical performance of the spring.<\/p>\n
Torque is applied either manually or through a gearbox in the STS-50. The system is equipped with an accurate machine-compliance compensation mechanism, a high-precision torque transducer, and an angular displacement measurement system.<\/p>\n
The machine is equipped with specialized fixtures\/mandrels, including hardened flanges and plates with drilled holes corresponding to the spring type, to ensure accurate positioning and evaluation of spiral torsion spring under torsional loading.<\/p>\n
The user-friendly software plots the torque-angle curve and generates comprehensive reports, including shear stress (\u03c4), shear strain (\u03b3), shear modulus, shear yield strength (\u03c4-\u03b3), and toughness. The software also provides curve-based analysis of characteristic points, including ultimate torque, fracture torque, yield torque, and angle of twist at fracture.<\/p>\n
