SAF-5M is a fatigue testing machine with a lower-table configuration and a capacity of 500 kg, designed for testing springs. It features a top-mounted actuator, with the load cell directly connected to the mechanical actuator.
The operating mechanisms of these machines are Electromechanical Dynamic or Electromechanical Linear Servo Motors. Power is transmitted through ball screws driven by an AC servo motor and driver. The machine is equipped with a hardware control system, and high-frequency DSP technology.
These low-capacity fatigue testing machines are designed for smaller load ranges and are capable of performing Dynamic and Quasi-Static tests, including tensile, compression, coil spring, and linear fatigue tests, in compliance with relevant standards. The system can perform static tensile and compression tests or low-speed quasi-static tests to determine the spring ‘K’ factor, as well as dynamic fatigue tests within a limited frequency range.
Main advantages of servomechanical fatigue testing machines compared with servo hydraulic ones:
- High accuracy in position and speed control due to the mechanism
- Precise waveform generation, capable of producing various loading patterns (sinusoidal, square, saw-tooth, random, etc.) with high accuracy
- Lower energy consumption compared to hydraulic systems, which require powerful hydraulic units
- No use of hydraulic oil, resulting in reduced noise, improved cleanliness, and suitability for laboratory environments
- Easy and cost-effective maintenance, with no need to replace oil filters or manage leakages
The machine is capable of performing fatigue and durability tests, as well as determining the service life of various specimens in compliance with international standards, including ASTM E1942 and ISO 14242. It can apply dynamic loads in multiple patterns such as sinusoidal, triangular, square, and saw-tooth with the additional capability of defining random tests based on the wave patterns. Furthermore, the system supports Spectrum Tests within specified range of force, extension, stress, and strain, at limited frequencies.
By applying high-quality electronic hardware with fast response and high data acquisition rates, precision sensors and transducers, ball screws with servo motor and driver, and a real-time controller, the SAF series machines ensure reliable performance. Combined with powerful software featuring optimized algorithms and advanced data processing for each control mode in long-term tests, enable the SAF series to simulate highly variable and realistic test conditions for practical fatigue testing.
The machine features a high-frequency response and a sampling rate of 5000 samples per second (one sample every 200 µs), enabling accurate measurement, rapid feedback and precise closed-loop control via a PID controller.
In addition to common fatigue tests, the SAF-10 can also perform crack initiation, crack growth, and static tests. The enhanced software (with Intranet connection via LAN port) provides the capability to apply periodic loads with specified amplitude and frequencies in various wave patterns, with additional features such as adding noise, applying offset, defining the number of applied cycles, and recording saved cycles. It also allows modification of all test parameters online during testing and generates comprehensive test reports.
SAF-5M is suitable for fatigue, durability, and performance testing, as well as determining the service life of various springs in production, research, and quality control environment. Typical applications include:
- Coil springs
- Tension springs
- Compression springs
- Linear springs
